Call it a rectangle and that is close, but it is in technical terms a geosoidal rectangle bounded on longitude and latitude without concerns to physical or polital boundaries a trait shared rarely among states and nations and only shared within the US by Wyoming and Utah. There are glitches in that system based on survey errors that easily happened before the instruments of the 21st century like GPS existed. They are minor in nature and have not created major border disputes between the respective States worthy of mention.
