  1. Water enters the seed through a hole in the seed coat called the micropyle.
  2. Water moves into the tissues and cells by imbibition and osmosis .
  3. The seed swells and the seed coat bursts.
  4. Water activates gibberelline, the hormone needed for breaking the dormancy of the seed.
  5. Gibberelline activates amylase which hydrolyses starch to maltose, and maltose is then hydrolyzed by maltase into glucose.
  6. Glucose is mobilized (transported) to the embryo .
  7. The embryo absorbs glucose and uses it for respiration (oxygen is needed in this process).
  8. Cell division, growth and elongation occur in the embryo . The radicle starts growing downwards into a root and the plumule starts growing upwards into a shoot.
  9. The nutrients needed for growth are all supplied by the food stored in the cotyledons.
  10. As the nutrients in the cotyledons are consumed and exhausted, the first leaves start to appear and the plant starts to photosynthesize and make its own food.
  11. When photosynthesis starts, the seedling absorbs water and minerals from the soil, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and sunlight.

The germination of a plant is the forming of a plant's leaves and vegetable/fruit/flower. The basic steps of germination are:

1) The plant's stem is containing in the ground,

2) Slowly the stem begins to grow and reaches above the ground

3) The cotyledons in the leaves of the plant help the leaves grow.

4) The following vegetable/fruit/flower for example a bean is formed in the middle of the leaves. At that particular time, the bean is quite small.

5) The bean grows and the plumule forms out. It rises above from the ground and joins the plant

6) With the help of the cotyledons feeding on photocynthesis the bean grows into a proper bean Plant.

THIS IS THE PRODUCTION OF GERMINATION.

What does a seed need for germination to occur?

For germination to occur a seed has to absorb water

How does Bleach affect seed germination?

Chlorine is poison so the seed that would try to germinate in clorine would most likely die. The rate of growth slows or stops. Chlorine is not helpful to plants what so ever.
