The so called god particle is the Higgs boson. The search and discovery of this particle would advance our knowledge of the universe and how it works. There is no relationship between a god or gods and the particle. This particle was named after the scientist who first theoretically proposed it. Note that "god particle" is a name used only by nonspecialists as journalists.
The LHC in Switzerland at the nuclear research center CERN was meant to find this missing and mysterious particle. It is mean to give matter its mass and other properties. The Higgs boson was supposed to be found but the test are being carried out now. The first results are negative.
Recent update: on 13th December 2011, CERN issued a press release describing the current status of the search for Higgs bosons (see related link). There still has not been a positive discovery, but the possible mass range has been restricted severely and we should know soon (at some point in 2012) whether the standard model version of the Higgs exists or not.
Update: The Higgs boson was discovered on July 4, 2012.
You are probably referring to the Higgs Boson, also known as the "god particle". It gives subatomic particles their mass and gives all matter in the universe size and shape. It is believed to have been discovered on 4 July 2012.
Refer to the related link for an article in the LA Times.
The Higgs Boson was discovered in July of 2012. The media calls it "The God Particle", but this is a misnomer; there is nothing godlike about this particle. It's the particle counterpart to the field that gives particles their mass.
The Higgs boson is referred to as the God particle for the reason that this kind of particle is predicted in physics theory of the Standard Model. Although the particle has nothing to do with God, the belief is, that the detection of this particle would lead to many explanations about the creation of the universe and the big bang and what caused it.
Currently, Higgs Boson is considered to be the God particle. Now, the answer will differ from person to person. According to me its there.
No scientist is considered the "father of God". __ I wonder if you mean the "father of the god particle". That would be particle physicist Peter Higgs
There is no such thing as a "god element", if you believe in God than you believe he created all things so all elements are God's. However, the media are calling the "Higgs Boson" (the new particle that they think they have found in the CERN experiment), the "god particle" because if there it would be this particle that gives matter mass.
The true name of the so called (by non specialists) god particle is the Higgs boson; this particle was predicted but not discovered until now. The Higgs boson is not the equivalent of the antimatter.
god's particle..................
the god particle ( or Higgs Particle) was an elusive quantum physics particle that remained unfounded for a number of years until July, 2012. the God Particle reinstates many physical theories concerning mass. previous the the particle find it was unclear why some particles appeared to have little to no mass in comparison to other particles of similar qualities that had 'massive' mass. Peter Higgs first described such a particle as the Higgs Particle / God Particle about 40 years ago yet it remained unfounded. the find answers many questions and is significantly important in explaining many aspects of quantum physics
The hypothetical particle called the Higgs boson is also known as the "god particle", pressumably because of its important role.
God's Particle--Higgs Bossom
This is the Higgs boson; now (July 2014) this discovery is confirmed.
Leon Ledderman coined the term in his book, The God Particle: If the universe is the answer, then what is the question? In his book, he stated that he wanted to title the book "The God Damn Particle" due to the difficulty physicists were having in finding the particle. However, his publisher said that the book would do poorly if this were the title and so it was changed to the title that we are familiar with. Given his writing style, it is unknown if this is true or if he were just making a joke.
