The earth is surrounded by an atmosphere of air, made up of a number of gases. These gases form a 'blanket' which prevents all the sun's heat (infrared radiation) from reflecting back into space. If this greenhouse blanket was not there the surface of the earth would be about minus 18 degrees C (0ºF), instead of its present average temperature of 15 degrees C (59ºF). So this natural greenhouse effect is very useful.

The gases that keep the earth warm are called greenhouse gases. The most important gas, causing about 75% of the natural greenhouse effect, is water vapor. The next most important is carbon dioxide.

About 200 years ago humans started pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, when the first factories began. Today the concentration of carbon dioxide is 35 per cent greater that it was in the 18th century. We have increased other greenhouse gases too, like methane, nitrous oxide and ozone.

These increased amounts of greenhouse gases trap more infrared radiation and the earth's lower atmosphere is warming up. This is known as the enhanced greenhouse effect and is causing global warming, which, in turn, is causing climate change. This is made worse by deforestation because plants take in CO2 and without them, less carbon dioxide is taken in, which in turn traps more heat.
it causes global warming

the greenhouse effect influences the earth by cause global warming. The reason why is because the greenhouse effect, traps heat in our atmosphere, causing the earth to heat more than usual.

The "greenhouse effect" refers to trapping heat. Green houses let light shine through all the walls and ceilings, through translucent glass or plastic. This radiation is absorbed and emitted in the infrared (heat) spectrum, but remains inside the green house.

Many scientists believe atmospheric CO2 concentrations of 350 ppm (parts per million) would be sustainable. In other words, below 350 ppm earth's temperature would tend to remain constant. Above 350 ppm, however, there may be a "runaway" greenhouse effect, in which high temperatures cause trapped methane gas releases, which spurs higher temperatures and more methane gas. After a few centuries earth becomes transformed into a paradise much like Venus. No disease, war, famine, poverty, life etc.

How do sun rays affect are atmosphere?

Well it doesn't really affect our atmosphere but it does affect our earth's climate like Greenhouse Effect

Where does the greenhouse effect affect?

The 'Greenhouse affect' is global. It affects everywhere and everyone.

How does the enhanced greenhouse effect affect the earth's climate?

The enhanced greenhouse effect is causing global warming. Global warming is producing climate change, serious changes in the climate of the earth. See the related question below.

Is the greenhouse affect a recycling project?

No, the greenhouse effect is the effect of certain gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane (called greenhouse gasses) trapping heat near earth's surface. There is a natural greenhouse effect that keeps earth from becoming too cold, but there is some concern that human actions may be putting extra greenhouse gasses into the air and causing average temperatures to rise.

How does the Greenhouse Effect affect the atmosphere?

The greenhouse effect helps the atmosphere by keeping the suns rays on earth acting like a bubble letting sun light in but trapping as it tries to bounce of earths surface keeping earth warm

Does the greenhouse effect occur on the moon or the earth?

The greenhouse effect comes about when greenhouse gases in the atmosphere capture heat rising from the surface of the planet. As the moon has no atmosphere, it could not have a greenhouse effect. So the answer is: The earth.

How does the greenhouse effect earth?

the greenhouse effect influences the earth by cause global warming. The reason why is because the greenhouse effect, traps heat in our atmosphere, causing the earth to heat more than usual.

What is the temperature of it atmosphere is increased by the greenhouse effect?

Both Earth and Venus have increase temperature due to a greenhouse effect. Venus has a much stronger greenhouse effect than Earth does.

Is the enhanced greenhouse effect essential for life on earth?

The greenhouse effect is essential to life on earth. The enhanced greenhouse effect is not. In fact if it is enhanced too quickly it can be harmful to life.

Where on earth besides in a greenhouse does the greenhouse effect occur?

In the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect refers to the situation in the atmosphere where gases hold on to the heat rising from the earth.

What causes the greenhouse effect and how does it affect earths atmosphere?

The greenhouse effect is caused by greenhouse gases that absorb infrared rays and thereby keep the earth warmer than it otherwise would be. The greenhouse effect is important to life on earth. Without greenhouse gases, there would be global cooling and life as we know it would no longer be possible. With increased levels of greenhouse gases, there is global warming and undesirable climate change.

How does the greenhouse effect affect the air temperature?

The greenhouse effect keeps the air and earth warm enough for life. The sun's energy warms the earth.Infrared heat rises from the surface of the earth into the atmosphere where it is trapped by greenhouse gases causing the greenhouse effect. The warm greenhouse gases in turn warm the surrounding atmosphere, and some of this heat goes back down to earth, where it adds more warmth to the earth's surface.
