There is a 5 step process in the manual for the 99 Taurus cylinder head torque. Please note these engines use "Torque-To-Yield" head bolts! These are special bolts which stretch differently then conventional bolts! YOU MUST USE NEW HEAD BOLTS EVERY TIME THEY ARE REMOVED! NOTE: This is the procedure for 99 Taurus only! The 96-98 is different, and the 2000 is also different: 99 head torque: Step 1: 35 to 39 ft lbs. Step 2: Loosen 360 degrees Step 3: 22 to 24 ft lbs Step 4: Tighten 85 to 90 DEGREES (1/4 turn) Step 5: Tighten 85 to 90 DEGREES (1/4 turn) Done. NOTE: 96-98 uses 52 to 66 in step 1, step 2 same, step 3 is 34 to 40, and step 4 is 63 to 73. No step 5 - done. 2000 cars: Step 1 is 37, step 2 same, step 3 is 22 lbs, step 4 and 5 are same. Done.
