The MLA heading typically includes the author's name, the instructor's name, the course title, and the date, formatted in a specific way at the top of the first page of a paper following MLA guidelines. It helps identify the author, instructor, course, and submission date of the paper.

People can use MLA format for headings. On the title page the first heading should be placed in the upper left hand corner of the page. The person's full name, the name of the supervisor, class title and the due date of the paper must be placed. There should be a double space between two lines. The heading should always be mentioned in 12 font size. People should not use effects with the headings. Rather, they should exclude underlining, italics and highlighted effects.

Top right header: last name space page number --> Smith 1 Left hand: your name, professors name, subject, and due date. (dont write the words "Due Date")

Make sure the font for the headers are what the professor assigned (normally times new roman) and your header is double spaced.

also make sure you use 12 font or less

Example:

John Doe

Dr. Melissa Garrett

English 101

16 November 2009

In a title of the MLA format, capitalize the first word, the last word, and all principal words, including those that follow a hyphen in a compound term. Also capitalize the first word of a subtitle following a colon. Italicize the names of books, plays, films, newspapers, journals, magazines, pamphlets, Web sites, etc. and any work published independently. Use quotation marks for titles of works published within a larger work and for unpublished works; articles, essays, poems, stories, pages in Web sites, and chapters of books; unpublished manuscripts, lectures, and addresses delivered at conferences.
