What is the highest price paid for a piece of baseball memorabilia?

In 1999 Mark McGwire's 70th home run baseball sold for 3 Million dollars. This sale was made before the steroid scandals came into the picture, and prices for historic home run baseballs have been going down ever since.

Barry Bonds 700th home run ball only sold for $102,000 in 2005, and the baseball Barry Bonds hit for his 70th home run of season only sold for $14,400 in 2007. This ball previously sold for $60,000. Steroid suspicions are hampering the value of collectible home run balls from more recent years.

The highest price paid for a non steroid related piece of baseball memorabilia is the famous "Gretzky T206 Honus Wagner" baseball card selling for $2.8 million in 2007. Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall bought the T206 Honus Wagner card in 1991 for $451,000., and sold it for $500,000. in 1995.
