Disc jockeys- the term refers to the discs or records the (Jockey) is playing over the air first came in to prominence in the late thrities. one of the first was the so-called Make Believe Ballroom of one Martin Bloch. Bloch was a deejay- as we now say, not an orchestral leader like Mr. Miller. The show was an immediate hit. I often wondered if he was related to the French aircraft manufactuer Martin Bloch ( pronounced as Block) Evidentally he was not, or may have borrowed the name ( Bomb runs, big hits?) There were also comedy disc jockeys such as for a while (TV) Sandy Becker as (Hambone) who wore a weird bandmaster costume with a Swiss hat and a jeweler"s loupe on stage while bouncing about to various songs. he had a theme song ( Hambone_ which was an authorized parody of Mocking Bird. so it goes Deejay Vous!
