What is the history of MS-DOS?

Answer:

Back before 1980, there were several DOS's (disk operating system) for the 8080 class machines. [Dos, Nudos, newdos, xdos]. Microsoft wrote one for Tandy [TRS-80, a Z80 chip machine] that wasn't bad and in 1980 sold it to IBM (or licensed it to them, I've heard both) - which put Microsoft in the black.
ms-dos is still running under all windows machines no matter the lies they like to tell.
