Blogs began at the beginning of the internet age, so around the 1990's. This was when online diaries were just starting to become popular. The term 'weblog' was coined by Jorn Barger, and then split up to 'we blog', then shortened to the contraction 'blog' by Evan Williams. The blog was just another type of web software that was more customizeable and viewable than an online diary, so the blog scored a smashing hit with the internet age and its users.
