It was said somewhere that gangs were first started as sort of a protection method from racial crimes being committed against black people. Younger people would form groups to watch their neighborhood from any such crimes. Eventually, the groups started getting into fights with each other. I heard this on TV somewhere

∙ 9y agoGangs in ancient days were usually referred to as clans. Clans would protect their community through extortion or act as thieves. Today's gangs are no different in the sense that they usually deal illicitly in illegal activities and share the wealth among themselves.
