Mythology is as old as spoken language because mythology originated as stories that are either used to explain natural (yet inexplicable without science) occurences or to scare or motivate the population into behaving a certain way. Then the stories are passed down through the generations and evolve over time.

It all started with Mother Earth and Uranus (Lord of the sky) had 12 Titans. The most powerfull Titan was named Cronus. And he wanted many kids but every time he and his wife had a child he ate it. Finally his wife Rhea was desperate so she hid her 6th child Zues in the island of Crete.

He grew up and became a very powerful God. He then wanted to overthrow Cronus and the other Titans since they ruled the land. One of Zues' allies tricked Cronus into eating a magic herb but it made him sick and he threw up his 5 other children Posiedon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. Cronus then knew that they would overthrow the Titans so he backed down from his position.

This is the most known story. There is a lot of Gods and Godesses (way to many to tell you all of the stories) But I will tell you some of their names and what they are Gods or Godesses of:

Athena- Godess of Wisdom (daughter of Zues)

Ares- God of War

Aphrodite- Godess of Love and Beauty

Zues- God of the Sky

Posiedon- God of the Sea

Hades- God of the Underworld

Hermes- Messenger of the Gods

Hera- Godess of childbirth and marriage

Demeter- Godess of the Harvest

Hephaestus- God of Fire

Dionysus- God of Wine

Cupid- God of Love&Desire
