El Azzizia, Libya has the world record highest temperature 57.8°C (136° F) although unrecorded temperatures in Southeast Saudi Arabia may have been higher.

On average, the town is not one of the world's hottest.

Dallol, Etiophia is the hottest overall, with a yearly average of 34.4°C. (95° C)

Dallol, Ethiopia is not really a town, but an inhabited area in the Danikil Depression.

Humidity is very low.

The hottest places that are actual towns/cities include cities on the southern coast of the Red Sea such as Jizan, Saudi Arabia; Djibouti, Djibouti; Al Hudayduh, Yemen, etc.

Average annual temperature: 30° C. (86° F) (with very high humidity)

Perhaps the most intolerable combination of heat and humidity occurred in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with a temperature of 42° C (108°) and a dew point of 95°

Wyndham, Australia also has an annual average of 29.5° C,(85° F) but not as humid.

Death Valley, California once had a temperature of 57° C (134° F)

Bangkok, Thailand is probably the hottest major city (major city being a city with a population over 1 million). It's average annual temperaure is 83.4°F and it averages about 300 days a year with a maximum temperature of 90°F or higher. The "Mexico" answer below is completely off base since not only is Mexico not a city but it is not near the equator. If the author meant Mexico City, that is actually a relatively cool city lying a very high elevation.

The only other major city that is a contender to Bangkok is Madras, India where the average annual temperature is about the same as Bangkok but it has much fewer 90°+ days.

Mexico because it is near the equator and the temperature is always the same on the equator

Mexico because it is near the equator and the temperature is always the same on the equator
