The spirit is that part of a human that is most identified with God. The soul is composed of the mind, the will, and the emotions. The spirit is changed at the moment a human gives his/her heart to Jesus Christ and is converted by God. The Holy Spirit now resides within the individual. The soul is gradually changed after conversion through a daily dying to self and sanctifying(being set apart) through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

The soul is our thoughts, emotions, and experiences, the things that go on in our brains/bodies. The spirit is to the soul as the soul is to the body. As the actions of the body are determined by the decisions of the soul, so the direction and values of the soul are determined by the spirit within us.

Our natural spirits tend to be unreliable, wandering in this or that direction, thirsting for some satisfaction that will last, but finding that "all is vanities".

When we truly take on Christ's spirit, we find that our soul finds true rest, purpose and power. Because God's spirit is unlimited and untainted, our soul at last finds a direction that is meaningful.

This is utterly transforming, and is what makes the Christian experience so fulfilling.

According to The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary; Soul spiritual or non -material part of a person, believed to exist after death. Spirit persons mind or feelings as distinct from his body; soul: He is troubled in spirit/His spirit is troubled. (and it goes on and on, go look it up) The soul and the spirit is one and the same thing. It does not matter which religion you follow or what God you believe in or what ancient script you read, EACH AND EVERY HUMAN HAS A SOUL/SPIRIT.Your body entered this life with a spirit, but only your spirit will leave this life. Your physical body will remain as we all know. Your spirit consist mostly of energy and intellect which is part of the Universe that was createdby the Divine creator, you may call Him what you want, it makes no difference. Not all is equally in touch with their spirits during life on earth. Some are totally and some are in denial that they have a spirit. But, your spirit returns to earth tie and time again each time in a new human body and it will keep on returning until it is time for it to be recognized my the human body it occupies. The spirit is in short your conscience. A lot more can be said about this, but I think this gives you an idea.

Your soul gives your body life. Your spirit is your free will and your emotions: love, hate, joy, sadness...

Genesis 2:7 (KJV) And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 35:18 (KJV) And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

Genesis 41:7 (KJV) And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

Genesis 41:8 (KJV) And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

Genesis 45:27 (KJV) And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived:

Exodus 35:21 (KJV) And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD'S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.

Proverbs 20:27 (KJV) The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

ANSWER

You are familiar with this verse from Genesis, Quote- And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul" Unquote. If this is so then the body and the spirit are the soul of man. They are inseparably connected until death seperates them.

The Human Spirit is that spirit which is inside of you, it is that which makes you who you are. You and you alone control that spirit, if you have evil tendencies so also will your spirit, if you have righteous tendencies so also will your spirit. The spirit which is within you will return to that father who gave you life when you die.

But there is also another spirit which is inside of everyone, that is the Spirit of Christ which tells us right from wrong.

The Spirit of the Holy Ghost is that spirit which when called upon will guide you through your life. It is a God given gift to all mankind it will testify to you that Jesus if the Christ, the son of the living God. The Holy Spirit will not stay with you all of the time, but will visit you whenever you have a righteous desire.

Because of The Bible evidence, many believe that there is a difference, yes.

They are two different words, with two very different meanings.

SOUL (which in Hebrew is ne′phesh [נפׁש]; and in Greek : psy·khe′ [ψυχή]) as used in the Scriptures show "soul" to be a person, an animal, or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. The SOUL is the person himself.

Examples:

-At creation, Adam 'came to BE a living soul' Genesis 2:7 KJV, ASV

-The soul dies Ezekiel 18:4 KJV, ASV

SPIRIT (which in Hebrew is ru′ach;and in Greek: pneu′ma (breath, air) generally refers to the life-force of the living creature or soul.

Hebrews 4:12 speaks of the Word of God as 'piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and their marrow.'

-When Adam was created, he was formed from the dust of the earth, God blew into his nostrils the breath of life (spirit) and he BECAME a living soul.Gen 2:7

(Genesis 7:22) "Everything in which the breath of the force of life was active in its nostrils, namely, all that were on the dry ground, died."

(Job 27:3)"While my breath is yet whole within me, And the spirit of God is in my nostrils"

(Job 33:4)"God's own spirit made me, And the Almighty's own breath proceeded to bring me to life."

Another Answer:

One is the breath of life for air-breathing creatures, birds, land animals, man while the other is similar but imparts mind power.

The Hebrew word for soul is 'nephesh' while the Greek uses 'psuche.' The Greek and Hebrew words, however, more properly denote that which is alive, which is animated, which breathes, which has an animal nature. The Bible states that both man and animals became 'living souls' that die.

Often two other terms get intermingled and confused. The word 'spirit' is in the Hebrew 'ruach' and Greek 'pneuma.'Both simply mean wind, breath, mind, spirit when speaking of man or animal. It is neuter. When speaking of God, ruach connotes His active, creative power and the One who imparts the breath of life or nephesh to living, air breathing creatures which includes man. It is not a person or part of an trinity as some state.

In mankind, it is the essence which empowers the physical brain to 'know and create,' to decide right from wrong, to communicate and all other functions we humans demonstrate via our minds. It also serves as a most complex computer which records all of the individual's life events. This is explained when Ecclessiastes 12:7 and the Judgement Process of Revelation and other Scripture is fully thought out. Lastly, it is via this essence that the spirit in man is begotten by the Holy Spirit of God to begin the growing process to be 'born again' in the spirit world as sons and daughters of the God Family.

This spirit in man is also capable of dying. It is not 'immortal' as was an old pagan idea from the Middle Eastern world Socrates brought to the West and caught fire in their thoughts and writings primarily via his main student, Aristotle. The Scriptue is clear we are to fear the One (God the Father) who can destroy both the soul and the spirit. Those incorrigible few who refuse to repent will be cast into the Lake of Fire and die the 2nd death (Romans 6:23).

The terms soul and spirit are often used interchangeably in the Bible to refer to the total spiritual (nonphysical) part of a person that lives on after physical death. A person is a unity. Body and soul or spirit are not opposite terms, but rather terms which supplement one another to describe aspects of the inseparable whole person.

That depends upon the 'branch' of Christianity answering. For the most part, mainstream teachings are that the soul is immortal and is judged immediately upon death, reaping the persons eternal bliss in heaven or eternal torment in hell. The Bible, however, teaches something quite different than this. Indeed, the eternal punishment account is more in line with the 14th Century Poem by Dante called the Divine Comedy with part I called the Inferno - trip to hell. The mainstream church calls this the 'Sacred Poem.'

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew term 'nephesh' can be translated as a breathing creature, living being, or soul in various biblical translations (see Genesis 1:20; 2:7). But the Bible is clear that the soul can die (see Ezekiel 18:4; Matthew 10:28; Romans 6:23). After reading the referenced Scriptures, it will soon become obvious that the mainstream teachings are in conflict with the Bible.

"There is a spirit in man" as Job 32:8 states succinctly. Also, Zechariah 12:1 tells us God created the human spirit for every person. Some have called this our 'mind-power' that imparts our intellect, self-awarness, personality and temperament. This spirit allows only the human creature the sum of our accomplishments and knowledge - short of spiritual understanding as the Apostle Paul was inspired to tell us here:

1 Corinthians 2:11

New King James Version (NKJV)

11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

It is by way of the human spirit that we are able to receive God's Holy Spirit after proper repentance and baptism (see Acts 2:38-41). We are 'begotten' into the God Family - we in Jesus who is in the Father and He in each of the firstfruits (see John 14:19-21; Romans 8:23, etals). Eventually, the main 'harvest' of mankind will go through the Judgment Process - those who repent and are baptized will be changed into sons and daughters within the God Family for all eternity. Those, hopefully few, who adamantly refuse to repent and accept Jesus as the only Way to eternal life, will be cast into the Lake of Fire, instantly consumed leaving only ashes behind into their eternal oblivion (Malachi 4:3).

The human spirit is the deepest part of a person. By means of this innermost part we can contact God in the spiritual realm.

The human soul is our very self a medium between our spirit and our body possessing self-consciousness that we may have our personality. our soul is our personality who we are.
