Probably the most significant outcome of World War II was the destruction of the old world order, a process that began in WWI. The old world order was a political system with many power points - Germany, Russian, France, USA, Japan, etc. Each had its own interests and mainly operated independent of one another. All were colonial powers to varying extents. The center of world political influence was Europe, varying from specific place to specific place (Berlin, London, Paris all had the top spot at various times). By the end of WWII all this had ended. No European power has ever regained the power and prestige that several enjoyed prior to WWI. The loss of power of these states is most striking when one notes the loss of colonial empire. The world largely divided into two blocs, one led by America, the other by Russia. Europe ended WWII as merely the stage upon which other great nations play out their political games. The world political capital moved to the USA, where the UN headquarters was set up in New York City. The end of European world dominance meant that other nations began to flex their political muscle - thus the rise of Jewish nationalism and Israel, the rise of Arab and Chinese nationalism.

World War II is important for many reasons. First, it stopped the spread of dictatorships ruling both in Asia and Europe. Had Hitler and Japan been victorious, North and South America would be surrounded by enemies to the democratic institutions represented in those areas. The United States would be surrounded by hostile forces bent upon complete world domination. Second, the war ushered in the Atomic Age. The dropping of the Atomic bombs not only signaled an escalation of war weaponry, but it also ushered in an era that could be beneficial to mankind, via the peaceful uses of atomic and nuclear know how. Thirdly, the end of World War II saw the beginning of the Cold War and the conflict between the east (Soviet Union) and the west (United States) and the allies of each. The war also saw how nations could effectively help one another as example in the Marshall Plan, begun during the Truman administration. And, the United States saw the need for an effective world organization to help prevent future wars and try to solve disputes between nations. The creation of the United Nations was an attempt to solve problems that President Wilson had hoped would be accomplished by the League of Nations. MrV

World War 2 had different effects for different countries. It brought the United States together and out of a recession. It provided jobs for many and even started a new era for women. This was very good for us; however, the theaters of this war were brutally damaged. This also created jobs but not in a good sense.

This war also brought an end to isolationism for the United States, and made us into a world power. This was an important time in history for us.

ww2 was the darkest war in world history and if we do not learn an important lesson from it's villinous blot on world history what's to stop it happening again;? who will be the next victims christians...Muslims...whites? blacks?

before ww2 no one would have thaught that a villan such as Hitler would

be able to exterminate 6million Jews and 1million gipsies along with other groups the Nazis deemed un-worthy of life if we do not learn valuable lessons

not only can it happen again; but it will. at this moment France has adopted an anti roma strategy that Hitler would have been proud of. have we really learned anything from ww2? why is ww2 important? where else would people such as sarcozey get insperation from..,
