Biodiversity refers to the diversity of life forms within a given ecosystem, biome, or the entire earth. When people speak of "conserving species," they generally are referring to the goal of maintaining this diversity of life.

Typically the first reason people think of for conserving species diversity is the aesthetic value of species. Each species can fascinate us with its uniqueness, generating public appeal.

More objectively however, the importance of conserving species diversity rests upon the ecological services that each species performs within its environment. That is, each species is important for how it generates and processes resources in the area in which it lives. Each species produces and consumes matter, which is made or used by something else, according to its availability, creating what is called the food web or the food chain. And when a species goes missing from this network, typically another species or it's products begin to over-accumulate, throwing the ecosystem out of balance.

Thus, species often indicate the health of our ecosystems. Additionally, monitoring species can often be the easiest way to recognize pollution in habitat, providing warning of pollution that could adversely effect human health.

Because if we do not conserve animals, they will go extinct like for example the shark, panda, white tiger etc. Also, it breaks the biodiversity of life in the particular area which is bad

Certain animal species are keystone, which means that the entire ecosystem depends on them. Take the bee, for instance. If bees were extinct, there would be no animals to pollinate countless numbers of flowering plants. If these plants weren't pollinated, they couldn't make seeds and couldn't reproduce, so they would soon be extinct. Without these, countless other species that depend on those flowering plants would become extinct, and even humans would be severely impacted.

Another reason is easy enough to figure out if you imagine that lions, for instance, no longer existed because they wiped out by human activity. I'm not sure about you, but that would make me very sad.

What is preservation of the environment?

Conservation of the environment is essential. It saves our natural resources, reduces pollution and landfill. For instance, fresh water levels in many parts of the world have dropped alarmingly. Water shortage is a growing problem. If there is no water on Earth, there will be no life, no environment. So, it is very important that we conserve fresh water (Check out the link below for some simple tips on how to save fresh water at home.) By saving water we would be saving the lives of plants, animals and mankind. That's how conservation would be benefiting the environment too!It is important because then other living organisms can live.
