Training and development are needed because they enhance employees' skills and reveal hidden capabilities in the area in which they work. By training and developing workers, the productivity of a company can be increased and company growth in many areas can be realized. This increases company proffitibility and (hopefully) allows employees to make more money and rise in the company structure. All this equates to a win-win for the company and those employed there.

Organizations love to save money. If they can train and develop from within the organization that saves them cash. If Joe has been with the company 15 years and passes away tomorrow, who will take his place? A successor, that was trained from the people who knew the job best. This way companies save recruiting costs, hiring, training and keeps the org. running smoothly. The most cost-effective, successful businesses are learning to use internal intranet training. They do not have to hire someone to train and the training is easily attainable by current employees. Training Successors is better than hiring outside the organization.
