A veterinarian's responsibilities are similar regardless of the species he/she works with - provide competent medical care to the animal and accurate information to the owner of the animal. In the case of marine animal veterinarians, this gets a little more challenging because there is much less information on the vital parameters of a sea otter than there is for the domestic cat.

A marine mammal vet tech helps the veterinarian in whatever way asked. This could be giving medication, holding animals still or examining. Sometimes this involves keeping charts of vitals for the doctor as well.
