Answ2. The South Island is dominated structurally by the Alpine Fault, which has historically raised the sedimentary greywackes about 20 km. This has been reduced by erosion to about 3 km. Resulting in large alluvial plainlands.

South of the Canterbury area, the landform is dominated by the Waipounamu Erosion Surface (Miocene) and this is currently being compressed by (very roughly) E-W forces. This is raising in a plastic mode, a series of smoothly-rounded mountain blocks about 1000m high.

In the North Island, there is some continuation of the SI greywacke, but the Taupo Volcanic Zone really dominates the scene. This zone has in the past been the site of the world's largest known volcanic explosion, with ejecta of over 1200 cubic kilometres on occasion. A recent eruption (c181 CE) is recorded in Chinese and Roman records, and ejected about 120 cubic kilometres of ash. Present landforms resulting from these ash showers have produced large areas of fertile downlands and plains.

A1. New Zealand is comprised of three main Islands located in the deep Southern Pacific Ocean. It is a total of 268,680 sq km with 268,021 sq km of that being land (It is roughly about the size of Colorado) .

New Zealand includes the Antipodes Islands, Auckland Islands, Bounty Islands, Campbell Island, Chatham Islands, and Kermadec Islands and has a coastline measuring 15,134 km.

It's climate is temperate with regional contrasts, it is a mostly mountainous landmass with some large coastal plains which vary from sea level to a high of 3,754 m for Aoraki (Mt. Cook.)

A country of several main islands and many minor ones. Lying in temperate waters with a large economic zone at sea for fishing etc. There are many mountains, and these have produced extensive fertile plainlands which support vigorous agriculture activities.

In the south there are any deep glacial-formed lakes, and in the north, many lakes formed as a result of volcanic activity.

Tectonic plates and the subduction zone associated with it are the driving forces that created new Zealand. This creates the Alps in the South Island, and the volcanic zones in the north island. The major fault systems that traverse the land also have their effect.
