The Chesapeake Bay is located between Maryland and Virginia. It is the largest estuary in the United States and an important ecosystem.
The name of the large bay between Maryland and Virginia is the Chesapeake Bay.
Chesapeake Bay, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean, extends through the states of Virginia and Maryland nearly as far as Pennsylvania. The bay divides the mainland areas of these states from their counties on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Chesapeake Bay is bordered by (and divides) the states of Maryland and Virginia. Both states have counties on the Delmarva Peninisula east of the bay.
It was established in 1802 in the town of Roanoke
Hampton is largest city on the way from Richmond to Virginia Beach. Williamsburg which is not really large is about half-way.
Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina and Georgia were reliant on cash crops.
There are no bays between Maryland and New Mexico. They are far apart and are separated by land, not sea. New Mexico doesn't touch any oceans.
In 1863, Kentucky bordered Confederate State Tennessee, as did a small part of Missouri. Missouri had a large border with Confederate Arkansas and Maryland had a small border with Confederate Virginia. West Virginia of course bordered Virginia as well.
