venus
mars ?!
Venus is sometimes called "the evening star", although it is a planet. This because it is very bright and always appears close to the Sun in the sky. So, sometimes it appears in the evening as the Sun sets, looking like a very bright star.
Wherever you are, an evening setting planet is probably Venus. It is usually conspicuously bright, appearing as one of the first stars.
Probably Jupiter which rises about 9 PM, depending on where in your time zone you are.
sometimes you can see the planet venus!
Venus, because it is close to the Sun (and very bright) it is seen either before the Sun at dawn or after the Sun at dusk.
Venus is the evening planet :P :) :P
Probably the planet Jupiter, if you saw it during the evening. Jupiter rises (this month) around sunset, and is up all night. It is the brightest thing in the evening sky; only Venus, which rises about 4 AM, is brighter.
At the moment (beginning of December 2008), the bright planets to be seen in the evening sky are Venus and Jupiter, the two are in conjunction (close together) in the sky at the moment.
As of late 2011, it's the planet Jupiter.
We cannot say for certain, but it if was very bright and visible shortly before sunrise then it was probably not a star but the planet Venus.
The planet Venus is sometimes called the morning or evening star. It can be very bright if in the right place in its orbit, as seen from earth. It will sometimes appear to be the first object to come out at night or in the morning.
Not just North Dakota; these days (September 2010), as soon as it gets dark enough in the evening, you can see Jupiter as a bright star rising in the east. By the way, if you look early enough, you'll see an even brighter star in the west - that is planet Venus.
