The polar bear is the largest.

[updated 9/18]

There is no definitive source of, data empirical or otherwise, to say which sub-species, Polar or Kodiak is largest. In general and on average most observers agree that the polar bear is longer (taller) while similar observations suggest that the Kodiak bear weighs more.

Most observations also agree that the largest Kodiak and Polar bears (the males) can reach a height of approximately 12 feet and a weight of about 2,200 pounds. We may never know which bear reached the largest size due to over-hunting in the 20th century and more recent climate change each affecting immediate population sizes, habitat and migratory range.

bears vary greatly in size. during different months bears can double their weight. during winter most bears add about 4 to 5inches of fur on their withers adding to their height. bears can go from being small to immensely large. the polar bear is on average the largest bear, weighs about 1500lbs when at its heaviest, stands 4ft5 at the shoulder and can raise itself 10ft on hind legs. this is average. Kodiak bears come in second, weighing about 1200lbs at their heaviest, stand about 4ft5 and on hind legs are about 9ft. kamchatka bears are third, 4ft1 at the shoulder, weigh 900lbs for large males, stand 8ft6 on rear legs. ussuri brown bear or the amur brown bear weighs and measures about the same as the kamchatka but is typically slightly lighter. Siberian brown bears are 5th and are about 600lbs, just under 4ft at the shoulder and stand about 7ft at their maximum. grizzlies are not actually as big as many people depict them. at the shoulder they are 3ft3, weigh 500lbs and are 6ft6 on hind legs. eurasian brown bears are usually the same as grizzlies. syrian brown bears are very small. 3ft at the shoulder and weigh as little as 250lbs, and are 6ft on hind legs.

order then is:

polar bear

kodiak

kamchatka

amur brown/ussuri brown

east Siberian

Grizzly (although these show the greatest variation, some are very small only 250lbs whilst some can be immensely big)

eurasian brown

syrian brown

after this there are many other bears.

it is interesting to note that bears from Asia are actually far more aggressive than American and European bears. kodiaks, kamchatka polar bears are actually timid bears and will avoid man and other competition generally. amur browns are highly aggressive and come into competition with Siberian tigers. grizzlies despite popular belief will avoid humans and other conflicts. the same applies with the syrian bear. eurasians have been known to be very aggressive, particularly the bears from their Asian habitat.

No, because the kodiak bear is the second biggest land predator and second biggest bear species. Polar bears are the biggest predators living on earth, and they are the biggest species of bears alive.

Yes
Yes, although both are brown bear races, the Kodiak grows larger, mainly because of it's protein rich diet that includes lots of salmon.
They are the same species. The kodiak brown bear, scientists believe, grows bigger than the more inland dwelling grizzly race because of its salmon rich diet. But the grizzly is a race of the brown bear.

The Kodiak is the stronger bear with a hevier build thicker bones, extra hump of muscle , and weight in the front of his body, a polar bear is a bold warrior build has a doofy long neck, extrame fat in his butt is not as powerful as a mighty kodiak, but on average a polar bear weighs a little more, he i is more like a big dog with lon g legs than a mighty beast worthy of the tittle king of bears

Actually, the two closely related species are similar in size as far as weight is concerned. Large males of both species can weigh 1500 pounds or more. Polar bears tend to have longer bodies, and stand a bit taller, but the Kodiak brown bear is stockier in build.

Actually, the two are around the same size. Big males can be over 1000 pounds or more for both. The polar bear tends to be somewhat longer, and the Kodiak thicker in the body.
