I believe the largest chaity in the world is the society of saint Vincent de paul. It is a charity which operates in 147 countries and growing with over 1 million voulnteers worldwide. The SVP as it is sometimes known were established in Paris in 1833 by a young man named Frederic Ozanam to help those who were in poverty. This is still the main work of the charity today. The charity currently visit people in they homes hospitals and prisons as well as providing child care facilities for low income parents.
