It is said that the largest rattlesnake on the planet is the Eastern diamondback. The record length for this venomous snake is 96 inches.

Tim Manning, Herp.

If you "Google" "Texas" you will see a man with a 9 ft 1 inch 90 lb rattler.it was at Tow, Texas off hwy 281. Northern tip of Lake Buchanan 2007

The supposed 15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake was not 15 feet long. It was 7 foot and 3 inches and was found in Sept 2009. The largest Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake on record in 8 feet long. None have been found longer. Skins can be deceptive as they can be longer when shed from the snake.

See the related link for a picture of a 14' Western Diamondback rattler taken in Happy Camp, CA., on the weekend of 9/11/10 by a' good friend of mine.

---------

In Mid July, 2010, a rattlesnake was found near Whitwell, TN that measured:

14ft 9in, 24 rattles, 2 buttons, and 100lbs.

----------

There has never been a rattlesnake over eight feet long anywhere. But, there are many hoaxes. The eight footer was killed in Carteret County, North Carolina, in 1959.

Likely the biggest black timber rattler (or any rattlesnake, for that matter). Reportedly almost 12 feet long. Unfortunately, it was killed. A shame.

The biggest rattlesnake ever caught was 15 feet long. It was a Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake that was caught near Jacksonville, Florida.

Note: That was proven to be an internet hoax. The largest confirmed rattler was an eastern diamondback from Carteret County, North Carolina, in 1959. It measured eight feet in length.

The longest rattler we've ever heard of was over 11 ft. and was found in the Ocala National Forest. There were others nearly as long also found in that park.

A recent news article (with pictures) showed a 15ft. + rattlesnake that was caught in Jacksonville, Fla.

There are many "records" of giant rattlers, all are hoaxes. The largest confirmed rattlesnake was a huge eastern diamondback, killed in Carteret County, North Carolina, in 1959. This monster was eight feet long, and is mounted in the North Carolina Museum of Natural History in Raleigh. The eastern diamondback is the largest species of rattler, and often reaches nearly six feet in length. There have been other eastern diamondbacks of over seven feet, but the eight foot NC snake is still the record.

It depends on what source one uses. Some say that 8 feet and 3 inches is the record while others claim a rattlesnake of slightly over 9 feet. Both were eastern diamondback rattlesnakes.

There are a number of 'records' floating around and most of them are dubious. I have seen records for the eastern diamondback rattlesnake from over 7 feet to over 9 feet.
