You have to be at least over the age of 12. I baby sit and I'm only 13, and she is 8. As long as you are responsible you should be able to babysit

Illinois says that the appropriate age for a babysitter is 14 but that is for long periods of time but if it's only for an hour or less then it is up to the parents to decide
If i go to work and leave 4 of my children with my oldest child, who is 14, can i get into any trouble?

There isn't really a 'legal' age to babysit in Nebraska. I started babysitting when I was 12, as people's homes that I knew well. I doubt that you can be 10 or 11, however. It is best to know CPR and other important things to be able to babysit for long periods of time, like more than an hour. It's up to the parent or guardian of the child/teen, and who ever needs a babysitter.

i live in the state of Missouri, and when my daughter was babysitting at 11, i had called the division of family services to ask them this same question. i was told that she ok to babysit since she was as mature as she was she would be allowed to. hope this helps.
