In most states the age of majority is 18, but in some it's higher. For example, in Mississippi anyone under the age of 21 is considered to be a minor. That's why you have to be 21 in MS to get married without parental consent.

Depending on the state you live in there are various ages assigned as being a legal adult. Somewhere between 17 and 21 is the gamut the ages run.

In some states marriage and/or pregnancy changes the usual age in others it does nothing and the father could be held for statutory rape - depending on his age and the girls age.

Eight Years Old!

Although the state has no specific laws regarding this issue, the North Carolina fire code (G.S. § 14-318) states that a child under the age of eight shall not be left alone without appropriate supervision due to the risk of danger by fire.
