There is no standard legal definition of this term. It is simply a cumulative deduction arrived at by supportive evidence. It can include MANY things (e.g.: DWI with child in car - narcotics addiction to the point that the child is uncared for - living in filthy, unhealthy circumstances - etc - etc - etc).
See related question for the factors a court considers to declare a parent unfit.
Any mother who cannot or will not adequately provide for her child emotionally and physically. * Unfit mother (parent) is a societal term rather than legal. What some would define as unfit would not necessarily be the same as the legal definition of what constitutes neglect and/or abuse.
It is unlikely that the court would order "shared custody". If the mother is unfit the grandmother can petition to be appointed the legal guardian of the child. However, the father must consent. It is unlikely that the court would order "shared custody". If the mother is unfit the grandmother can petition to be appointed the legal guardian of the child. Many many parents drink to excess and some are violent alcoholics. The definition of an unfit mother is probably a little bit more devastating than being "upsetting".
This is not considered an unfit mother. Where a mother lives is not anything that makes a mother fit or unfit. A mother who is a drug addict or an alcoholic that is drunk all the time is an unfit mother.
You need to find legal proof that the mother is unfit to have custody of the child, drug testing and home inspections can be ordered resulting in the decision that a parent is unfit. Remember to stay within the law while trying to get legal custody of the child and always do what you feel is in the best interest of the child.
You must file for legal custody of the child. If the judge sees the mother unfit then custody battle will most likely be won.
no
the only thing in my eyes that would make a mother unfit if she is uncapable of putting her kids before drugs .

No, not if there is a biological mother in the picture. A parent can name a guardian in their will but that request will not become operative if there is a surviving who hasn't been determined to be unfit. Under extraordinary circumstances grandparents can be appointed legal guardians but only if the remaining parent is unfit and the placement is in the best interest of the child. In this case the child will remain in the sole legal custody of her mother.

You do not take custody of a child from a mother who you think is an unfit parent. You petition a court to make a determination that the parent is unfit and grant custody or a guardianship to you. See related link regarding the factors a court considers in determining a parent to be unfit.
