One presidential term lasts for 4 years. A president may serve only 2 terms (consecutive or otherwise) meaning a president may only hold the office for eight years total. The only exception to this rule has been Franklin D. Roosevelt who was president for four terms from 1933 until 1945.

A US presidential term is four years. The President may serve up to two elected terms, unless having served more than two years of a term by succession.
