A polar bear is born as a cub, deaf and blind, in a snow den built by its mother. Usually it is born with a sibling or two. The cub stays with its mom for several months, growing on its mother's milk, until it gets too crowded in the den. The mother bear then digs her way out of the den, encourages the cubs to come out, and makes a long journey from in-land to the sea ice. Once there the mother bear teaches her cubs how to hunt (and behave), bringing them fresh kills to chew on and play around with when they're old enough.

After a year or so, the cubs have grown enough to be less reliant on their mother for milk, protection and sustenance, and are weaned. From there, the young bears go off on their own, learning and surviving their way through life, learning more hunting skills as they grow older and more wiser.

A female bear (or sow) is ready to breed by the time she's around 2 to 3 years old, where a male bear (or boar) will court her for several weeks, mating multiple times with her and defending her or breeding rights for her against other roving males. Once she goes out of heat, the boar and sow go their separate ways. The gestation period of a sow bear is 8 months, with the last month or less being spent in a snow den made for herself, which is where she gives birth to her cubs and nurses them for the next few months, going into hibernation during that time. Female bears give birth to cubs once every couple years, and will continue to do so until they're around 20 to 30 years of age.

Boars never hibernate during their lifetime. They spend their time out on the sea ice in winter hunting seals, walruses and even whales, and go in-land during the summer where they go into period where they can't really eat much during this time, though they will make opportunities whenever possible, but always waiting during the short summer months for the return of the sea ice. The sows also follow this same period, sometimes and not at all uncommonly spending such a hunger period with her older cubs.

Bears eventually die of old age, but can also die of starvation, drowning in the ocean they depend on, or injuries sustained from fighting other bears or being impaled by a walrus's tusk. Cubs also have a high chance of mortality if they come in contact with a boar, no matter if it's their own father or not.

Beavers mate for life, but if one mate dies, the other one will find another mate.

Beavers mate when they are about three years old. Mating season runs from January and March in cold regions in late November or December in the south.

Gestation lasts about three months and females have one litter of kits a year between April and June.

Before birth, the female will make a soft bed in the lodge.

The babies eyes are open when they are born and they can swim within 24 hours of birth and will be exploring outside the lodge with their parents within a few days.

The young beavers are weaned in about two weeks. Both the male and the female take care of the young beavers. They will stay with their parents for two years, and yearlings act as babysitters for the new litter.

Beavers can live to be 20 years old.
