Exercise, exercising the mind such as reading (or helping the patient read)and gently prodding the person towards a more active lifestyle can help hold back the progression of Parkinsons. In at least some studies, it has been observed that mortality was significantly increased, and longevity decreased among nursing home patients as compared to community dwelling patients.
