In March of 2007 I had a massive heart attack, I woke with a balloon pumping my heat for two days. As a result of the severe damage to my heart my ejection fraction was 15%. A follow up visit to my Dr I was given a second stint and after my consultation with my Dr I asked squarely how long did I have to live. He said if every thing was equal I could expect to live perhaps 4 more years. However within 6 months I could barely walk and my EF was about 12%. Fortunately I received a transplant and now my EF is around 60%. Please understand the biggest risk for such low EF is the shutting down of other organs especially the kidneys. Please get with your Dr and discuss your options. Low ejection fraction is nothing to ignore.

How long can someone live with congestive heart failure. He has an enlarged heart twice the normal size a defibrillator and prescribed warafrin after ekg 1mth ago and still smokes and drinks.?

Persons with CHF can have a normal life span. An echocardiogram which is a simple non-invasive test can diagnose the severity of the CHF by examining the chambers of the heart and the overall strength of the heart muscle. Cardiomyopathy with enlarged heart times 2 is pretty serious. Smoking and drinking severely weakens the heart in general, and life expectancy depends on amount consumed/ smoked. warfarin is prescribed for dysrythmia for prevention of clot formation, but a person should not be drinking on it as it thins the blood and can cause complications such as hemmorhagic stroke, or internal bleeding elsewhere in the body. A defibrillator is only effective in life threatening dysrythmia and will not prevent further heart failure. By my best estimate as a past cardiac nurse, I'd say the person has 2 years maximum, sooner if the person is decompensated and requires frequent hospitalizations for excacerbations of symptoms ( severe swelling in ankles and feet, sudden weight gain, shortness of breath especially when lying down, anxiety++).

What is the life expentacy after suffering a heart attack?

That completely depends on a number of things, starting with how severe the heart attack was. The second completely depends on how the human lives. If they eat right and exercise properly, they can live a long, long time. If they do not, they will not live a long, long time.

What is left sided congestive heart failure?

Heart failure is a condition where the heart grows a lot larger due to it requiring a greater pumping force. This can be either due to increased blood volume or more likely, due to increased systemic resistance. A common cause of this is systemic atherosclerosis or aortic stenosis. The problem is, the large heart cannot be sustained for long and eventually the wall just thins out and becomes weak. So your heart can't pump out as much blood as before, giving you symptoms such as breathlessness, palpitations, fluid swelling, raised JVP etc.

Acute left sided congestive heart failure what exactly does ACUTE mean in this instance?

'Acute' means sudden onset or short course, as opposed to 'chronic' which means long duration or frequent recurrence.

How does a heart attack damage the liver?

A heart attack itself will not directly damage your liver unless it's related to long term heart failure. If you have right-side heart failure, your liver will not be affected. If you have left-side heart failure your liver may become enlarged.

Whats another way to say my heart aches when I long for you?

I don't think there is a better way of saying that. I think that phrase says it all. When you dearly love someone your heart can be very heavy without them in your life. Sometimes when you miss someone very much it can actually feel like your heart aches.
