Cheetah's can live up to 12 years or so in the wild. They are known to live upto 20 years in captivity (In Zoos). The lifespan is much shorter in the wild because, as they grow older, their speed comes down and their ability to hunt comes down. As a result they die much earlier in the wild.

The average life span of a cheetah is 10 to 12 years. Also though cheetach can live as long as 20 years. The have a longer lifespan in captivity (10 to 12 years) than they do in the wild (6 to 7 years ).
