Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi are along the east side of the Mississippi River. Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas are along its west side. The mighty Mississippi runs through or creates borders for ten states! It runs basically north to south in the middle of America. A link is provided to a good map, and another to the Wikipedia article on the Mississippi.
Originating in Minnesota, it flows south about 2,300 miles to the Mississippi River Delta, located between Louisiana and Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico.
The Mississippi River is located at nearly the center of the United States of America running from near the Canadian border in the north to Louisiana and the New Orleans delta region in the south running into the Gulf of Mexico. Kenneth L. "Rip" Stephens .

The best way to see the location of a large river is to look at map.

The Mississippi river runs from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. It runs through several states and flows several hundred miles. There are also smaller rivers that branch off from the Mississippi. The river has been one of the major means of transportation of goods and people from the earliest colonies to today.
