What is the loudest college football stadium? |
Answer
According to ESPN's College Football Live Thursday June 4, 2009 Autzen's 127.2db is the loudest recorded college football crowd. Even ESPN does not recognize the 130.2 that ESPN recorded at Husky Stadium, nor the unsupported 132.8 spoken of below at Death Valley. Oregon's Autzen Stadium is the loudest at 127.2 db, recorded on October 27, 2007 USC at Oregon.
The Register-Guard newspaper of Eugene, OR posted the original article which is quoted by the AP here showing Autzen Stadium (University of Oregon) with the record at 127.2 db on October 27, 2007

Clemson University holds the loudest noise record breaking the newly set record at Oregon. Clemson's Death Valley made an extrordinary 132.8 db's during the 2007 Boston College game. This surpassed LSU's earthquake set years prior.
The earthquake game - seismic activity has nothing to do with sound waves.

Note: The loudest stadium sound ever recorded was actually 133.6 dbs in Husky Stadium at the University of Washington. It was Sept 19, 1992 vs. Nebraska. It is not the reported "official" record, because ESPN recorded a sound of 130.2, and that is the official recording. However, a local suburban broadcast which documented the husky team that year recorded the 133.8 dbs. Although we can't be certain how accurate that recording is, it deserves a mentioning as the unofficial record
If anyone can find any articles supporting these statements, please post them, because I can't find any.

-That may be the loudest stadium decibel wise but if you consider the toughest place to play it would have to be Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainseville, FL it is always hot and humid with the 90,000+ breathing down your necks.

Ben Hill griffin stadium is one of the least won at stadiums in the country for the history of the sport so disregard that please.
Ohio Stadium is the most won at stadium for the past 20 years and has been since 1933 with over 94% of games won at home for the past 20 years and has been the most winning team at home since 1933.

The above claim is completely false. Ohio State is 113-18-1 in the last 20 years (1989-2008) at home. That equates to a .860 or 86% home win percentage. That's not even close to the best in the last 20 years. They also haven't won 94% of their home games since 1933. Since 1933, they are 356-88-12, which is .794 or a 79% home win percentage... far from 94%. All-time, their home winning percentage is .776 or 78%, 430-116-22.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is, in fact, the home of the team with the best winning home record over the last 20 years. Florida is 112-15 during the period, for a .882 or 88% home win percentage.

Nebraska is 120-16, also good for a .882 or 88% home win percentage. Florida State is 112-16-1, for a .872 or 87% home win percentage. tOSU should still be in the Top 5 over the last 2 decades; but they are not the best home team over that span... they're not even second or third best.
Loudest? Who knows. I've heard The Swamp, both Death Valleys (LSU and Clemson), and Autzen; although I hardly think a stadium that holds 55,000 (Autzen) is really louder than the other 3 that hold between 85,000 and 95,000.
