Two pairs of young aristocrats run into the woods near Athens. One girl is loved by both boys, whereas the other girls is despised by the one she loves. The first one is about to be married to the latter (whom she does not loves) so they all flee during the midsummer night. Magic things happen to them when they stumble upon the fairy folk.
