A film director is hired by the producer, and is responsible for working with the whole team -- stay for the credits after the film ends -- to tell the script's story on film.

The director may defer to the director of Photography, the lighting and sound team, the location managers and set decorators, and other professionals for their choices, or negotiate with each to fine tune options they bring to the director.

The director also works with the actors to help and support the actors in their work interpreting the characters.

Once the principal photography is finished, the director works with the film editor, sound effects team and the musical staff to assemble a complete film.
