If we take a cone as a simplified shape of Everest, then we can use the following

formula to calculate its volume:

V = 1/3*pi*R^2*H

Here: http://www.the-aps.org/publications/tphys/legacy/1982/issue1/36.pdf - you can find a picture with the height and base of the Everest (from which we can get the radius):

H = 8848 m

R = 16093 m

then:

V = 2398.5 cubic km

mass is calculated from density of the rock and volume. Everest mainly consists of

limestone (~2.6 kg/cubic m) with layers of dolomite (~2.85 kg/cubic m).

Then

m = p*V = 2.7 (kg/cub. m)* 2398.5 (cub. km) = 6.5 *10^12 kg

If you want know the weight P, then

P = m*g - where the vector-g is the g-force.

Mount Everest has a volume of approximately 365 cubic miles from sea level to the summit.

365 cubic miles = 1 521 386 372 716.335 7 cubic metres

Mass = Density x Volume

If you approximate the density of rock to be 124.8 pounds per cubic foot

124.8 pound/cubic foot = 1 999.104 182 4 kilogram/cubic meter

Then the mass is 1 521 386 372 716.335 7 x 1 999.104 182 4

= 3.041409x10^15kg

More correctly:

If we take a cone as a simplified shape of Everest, then we can use the following

formula to calculate its volume:

V = 1/3*pi*R^2*H

Here: http://www.the-aps.org/publications/tphys/legacy/1982/issue1/36.pdf - you can find a picture with the height and base of the Everest (from which we can get the radius):

H = 8848 m

R = 16093 m

then:

V = 2398.5 cubic km

mass is calculated from density of the rock and volume. Everest mainly consists of

limestone (~2.6 kg/cubic m) with layers of dolomite (~2.85 kg/cubic m).

Then

m = p*V = 2.7 (kg/cub. m)* 2398.5 (cub. km) = 6.5 *10^12 kg

---------------------------------------------------------

The above is incorrect due to using the wrong density for rock. I believe you meant to use grams/cubic meters rather than kg. Also in your final equation, you cannot multiply cubic meters by cubic kilometers to come up with kilograms. (ex. 5ft * 5cm != 25cm, but 5cm * 5cm = 5cm) Therefore this is more correct:

V = 0.33 * 3.14 * (16093)^2 * 8848 = 2.37*10^12 cubic meters

Then

m= p*V = 2700 (kg/cub.m) * 1.34*10^10 (cub. m) = 6.399 * 10^15kg approx. or 6,399,000,000,000 metric tons! Mountains are very massive.

There is no population of Mount Everest as know one lives on the mountain. During the climbing season there are many hundreds of people living in camps on Mount Everest while trying to reach the summit but once the climbing season is over the mountain is empty.

Sorry, but density of Granit are 2,7 t/m³ (2700 kg/m³)

and not 2,7 kg/m³!
