According to an article in USA Today, the maximum age is 42.
If you have prior service, you may be permitted to return to service one year older than 42 for each year of prior service completed. Basically, you must be able to reach a 20-year retirement by the age of 62.
I believe those numbers are for the Army. The USAF has lower requirements. The article mentions 27 as the maximum age, although I was under the impression it was 32 when I served.
To sign the enlistment paperwork by yourself, you need to be 18 years old. You can however enlist at the age of 17 if your parents sign a waiver.
