The current maximum size of an NTFS partition is 16 exabytes (18 billion gigabytes). Assuming you can divide up the drive into four primary partitions, you can have 64 exabytes on a hard drive. Of course, Windows still uses BIOS addressing to find the size of a hard drive, so it is still limited by what the BIOS can see. Currently, the newest BIOSes support a maximum of 144 petabytes (144 million gigabytes).
If you have loaded XP over an older version of Windows it is possible that you're still running FAT-32, in which case your partition size is severely limited.
However, if you've converted your file system over to NTFS your maximum disk size and maximum partition size is 18 billion gigabytes.
That also depends on having a BIOS that is capable of handling the larger disks.
Windows XP relies on the BIOS to get the correct drive geometry, so it can't use more than the BIOS supports. With LBA48, most BIOSs these days can support hard drives up to 144 PB (which don't exist yet). The NTFS file system supports up to 16 Eib for a partition.
Whats the biggest one that you can afford. The operating system doesn't determine the max size of the Hard Drive. However XP does limit the size of your usable RAM (memory to 4 GB). The difference would be determined by what type of interface your motherboard uses to connect to the hard drive. It would be either IDE (really wide plug with 40 pins and a ribbon cable) or SATA (small plug with about 4 pins and a cable about the size of a phone cord). Although a large hard drive (500GB to 1TB) can be found for either one it is easier to find (and sometimes cheaper) for the SATA.

The history of hard disk is that, hard disk is invented in 1950's that time hard disk size is 20 inche's maximum the name of hard disk inventer is "REY JOHNSON" by the help of IBM team. ""BILAWAL ABBAS""
Win8 need 20 GByte Hard disk space to install.
Hard drives for windows and OSX vary in size and model, check or ask about your computer brand. You can also check in My Computer (for Windows) or Macintosh Disk (for Mac OSX).

Windows 2000 can utilize the full capacity of any drive, providing that the BIOS can also see it. The maximum partition size for Windows 2000 is 256 terabytes, or about 256 times the size of the largest consumer drives available. A hard drive can have more than one partition on it, so even if the hard drive you had exceeded 256 terabytes, you could use the rest of the space by partitioning the remaining space.
Yes. Though with a hard disk of such small size it'd probably just be a good idea to just do Windows 7 and Linux.
Windows 7 has a maximum file size of 16 TiB.
depends on the hard disk and the size of the file--if your looking for a new hard disk, check what the rpm's are the more rpm's the faster your hard disk is
