It varies between the unit at which this is being held.
More often than not, however, it is three.
A new cadet (ns-1) is to wear no service stars.
A second year (ns-2) is to wear one service star.
A third year (ns-3) is to wear two service stars.
A fourth year (ns-4) is to wear three service stars.
Additionally, the new stars received from NJUMS are connected and reach as high as 3 only.
