He represents the fact that everything in wonderland is logical if you really think. For example, Alice told him she needed to find a path to get to anywhere and he said then it dosen't matter what path you take. He also tell her if she was sane she wouldn't be in wonderland.

The Cheshire Cat is a character created by Lewis Carroll for his book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It has its origins in a well known saying, 'to grin like a Cheshire Cat'. The phrase first appears in print in the second edition of Francis Grose's Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, from 1778: Cheshire Cat He grins like a Cheshire cat; said of any one who shows his teeth and gums in laughing.

Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable says that: The phrase has never been satisfactorily accounted for, but it has been said that cheese was formerly sold in Cheshire moulded like a cat that looked as though it was grinning.

The Cheshire Cat in "Alice in Wonderland" represents mystery, unpredictability, and whimsy. Its ability to appear and disappear at will, along with its cryptic statements, symbolize the nonsensical nature of Wonderland itself and the way our perceptions can be altered in a dreamlike world.

The Cheshire Cat is the cat Alice famously meets, who vanishes, leaving only its grin behind.

In Lewis Carroll's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat belongs to the Duchess. Alice first sees him while she is at the Duchess' house, where he is "grinning from ear to ear". Alice asks why it grins and the Duchess explains that it is because it a Cheshire cat.

The Cheshire Cat is the only character in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland described as being Alice's friend.

'It's a friend of mine-a Cheshire Cat,' said Alice: 'allow me to introduce it.'

By the time she had caught the flamingo...the fight was over....So she....went back for a little more conversation with her friend.

When she got back to the Cheshire Cat, she was surprised to find quite a large crowd collected round it....

As such, it might serve as a connection to Wonderland for both Alice and the reader, which prevents the place from becoming too distant and alien.

The cat also seems to be an important voice of reason in Alice in Wonderland. It has humanistic qualities and opinions, but being a feline, it makes what would be hard to take from a human easier.

And, from a strictly narrative point of view, it gives Alice directions - thereby allowing the progression of the story.
