What is the meaning of literary canon in literature I am having trouble understanding the meaning?

Answer

The literary canon is the more or less agreed list of the works and authors that constitute 'serious', worthwhile literature in a given language. These are the works and authors generally studied in the universities and so on.

Obviously, some scholars may study and write about 'pulp fiction' or 'comics' and so on, but this is then often regarded as sociology or social history.
