Temporary infatuation
It is the preliminary infatuation that one feels towards the opposite sex as soon as one steps into puberty and becomes aware of one's sexuality.
"Puppy love" is a temporary mental stage in life that usually passes off once the 'teenage' phase of life is over.
"Puppy love" has nothing to do with 'real love' which is a much deeper feeling among two people of the opposite sexes that develops over a number of years of continuous association, both physical and mental.
