The Lincoln Memorial is a memorial to Abraham Lincoln in Washington DC. It's at the end of the Washington monument shadow pool. It's a large building with a giant statue of a seated Lincoln in it.
Well, the Lincoln memorial was built in honor of President Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States. During his presidency, the nation was at war amongst itself (Civil War) and he was the one who helped them get back together. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes on April 14, 1865 and died at 7:22 a.m. of April 15, 1865. It was a great tradgedy to the country (he was one of the greatest presidents of all time) and the memorial was in his memory. In case anybody hasn't noticed but his hands are in the position of "a" and "l " in sign language since he was partially deaf, or so it is said.
The Lincoln Memorial in Washington is a large statue (5.8 metres) of Lincoln sitting. There are plaques on the wall behind him of the Gettysburg Address and his second inaugural speech. This was the location of Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech.
