What is the meaning of the name Erik?

[Edit]

Answer

Erik derives from the Old Norse name Eirikir, in turn derived from ei, "ever", and rikir, "ruler". Danish invaders brought this name to the rest of Central and Western Europe. Famous bearers of this name include Eirikir inn Rauda, or Erik the Red, the treacherous discoverer of Greenland.
