The melting point of the element, silicon, is about:

Melting Point: 1687 K (1414°C or 2577°F)

Boiling Point: 3538 K (3265°C or 5909°F)

Resource: http://education.jlab.org/itselemental/ele014.html

You can find the freezing point of the element there as well.

Thank you. :}

The letters 'SiC' stand for Silicon Carbide, which also is called Carborundum. It's a compound of Silicon and Carbon. It perhaps is better known in its synthetic form, for use as an abrasive. But it may be found in nature, albeit in the extremely rare mineral moissanite. Among its distinct characteristics, Silicon Carbide is insoluble in water, and has a melting point of 2730 degrees Celsius.
