Children are naturally rebellious and defiant. They must be taught to do what's right and to learn from their actions at a younger age. Jack sold the cow for beans. He listened to a stranger rather than his mother. Jack brought his mom things that belonged to the giant. His mother should have told him to take those items back and look for work.

There are many moral lessons in the story. Here are some opinions from our users:

  • Be careful when trading.
  • Be distrustful of easy answers (like magic).
  • Believe in magic.
  • Be respectful of other people's property.
  • Be satisfied with the life you have.
  • Cannibals never prosper.
  • Don't accept things from total strangers, you never know where it will leave you!
  • Don't eat people, even if they are small.
  • Don't kill people, even if they are big.
  • Don't let your child go do something that could get him killed, like climbing a beanstalk that is a mile high to go to a castle and KILL A GUY.
  • Dream big, and keep striving for the sky.
  • Next time some dude gives you a handful of beans, tell him you're legume-intolerant and give them right back to him!
  • Stealing has serious consequences.
  • There was no moral. Jack did something incredibly stupid and got rewarded for it. So I guess the moral is if you steal from some dude and then kill him you can live happily ever after in a castle paid for in stolen funds from a dead guy that you didn't even know when you killed him.
  • When the heart is pure, there will be a happy ending, even in the worst of situations.
