"Most famous" is subjective and difficult to measure precisely. As one of the most famous artists in the world, several of his works are easily recognizable. His Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and Three Musicians are among the paintings most frequently reproduced, as are some of his many self-portraits and paintings from his "blue" period.

It is Guernica, his work depicting the atrocities of war that is cited as most notable by some sources, and is arguably one of the most discussed of his paintings, partly due to the political aspect of the work.
