Crosman makes two rifles for around $80-$100 that can fire up to 1000fps[feet per second]...called the Phantom, and the Quest

New answer 5/21/08

Actually their are more powerful .177 refles avalable then the 2 listed above.

Benjaman make a rifle that fires at 1200fps but that just speed. If you want power the The Dragon Slayer 50, made by ShinSung is a 50cal PCP air rifle. At 500fps. this will bring down a boar or deer. 50cal, that's real power. So if you want power over speed look at PCP air rifles not spring rifles.

Acually their are even more powerful ones than that, if the question was about small bore, forgetting the .50 and .45 cal Asian rifles there is a GAMO hunter that has a killer power 1650 feet per second! and it comes in .177 and .22 cal hope that helps.

No airgun actually achieves that kind of velocity, but it is very popular trend in modern marketing, especially with Gamo. The most powerful smallbore (.25 and lower) airgun is made by Air Force Airguns and is called Air Force Condor. Many springers are capable of achieving similar velocity with lighter pellets, but that is mostly due to dieseling of oil in the chamber. It later stops as most of that oil burns out.

22 has more knock-down power and will do more damage than a 177

But however a .177 air rifle has more muzzle velocity and has greater speed and greater range which makes it more affective at longer range, if howerever you were going to fire at a bird in a tree with a .22 calibre (and also if the tree was a fair distance away (i.e) 50m away) because the muzzle velocity is lower than it is more likely that the bird will fly away before your pellet has a chance to hit.

On the other hand a .22 had more momentum in the round and if hits a animal (i.e) a pigeon it would do more damage to the pigeon than a .177 calibre does.

.22 = 5.5mm

.177 = 4.5 mm

Is a rifle the most powerfullest gun ever?

First, it is rifle, not riffle. Second, no, or we would shoot tanks with a rifle. Cannon are more powerful. Finally, depends on the rifle. I have a .22 rifle and a .44 magnum pistol. The pistol is far more powerful than the rifle. I also have a .22 pistol, and a 30-06 rifle. The rifle is far more powerful than the pistol (in THAT example).

Is a 22 pellet gun as powerful as a 22 rifle?

Generally, no. The size is the same, but the mass of the projectile is not. And a .22 rifle bullet is propelled by gunpowder, with a much higher muzzle velocity than an air-powered pellet.

Which is more powerful a 223 calibre rifle or a 22 calibre rifle?

It depends. A '.22' rifle, if you mean centrefire, includes alot of calibres as the term is generally used to mean any ammunition loaded with a .224 calibre bullet.Such calibres include .222 Rem, .223 rem, .22-250, .22BR, .22 Dasher and plenty of others.Of these, the .22-250 is by far the most powerful. It is essentially a .250 Savage case necked down to take a .224 bullet and so holds alot more powder than any other '.22' round.In terms of foot pounds of energy, a .223 Remington will generally produce about 1,200 FPE whilst the .22-250 will produce about 1,750 FPE.************However, if by "22 rifle" you are referring to the RIMFIRE .22, such as .22 LR, the .223 is much more powerful.

What is a 22 short and 22 long?

Is it better if the caliber on a gun is lower or higher?

Depends on the application. If you mean power, the higher the caliber, the more powerful it is. for example, a .22 caliber rifle is much less powerful than a .50 caliber rifle.
