st Helen's is a active volcano in skamania county Washington, northwest region of the united states. It is a 96miles (*154km) south of Seattle and 53 miles (85km) north east of the Portland, Oregon. St Helen's takes it name form the British diplomat lord George Vancouver who made a survey of the area in the late 18th century. St Helen's last occurred last in mid early year of 2004 in an eruption that lasted until the 10th July 2008.This eruption cause a massive debris avalanche, reducing the elevation of the mountains summit from 9,667 feet (2,950m to 8,365 feet (2,550m) and replacing it with a 1 mile(1.6km) wide horseshoe-shape.

The Washington state Department of Game estimated that nearly 7,000 big game animals (deer, elk, and bear) perished in the area most affected by the eruption, as well as all birds and most small mammals. However, many small animals, chiefly burrowing rodents, frogs, salamanders, and crawfish, managed to survive because they were below ground level or water surface when the disaster struck. *The eruption during 1980 that caused the most damage was on May 18, 1980. The aftermath that the Washington Department of Game estimated was that, 11,000 hares, 6,000 deer, 5,200 elk, 1,400 coyotes, 300 bobcats, 200 black bears, and 15 mountain lions died from the pyroclastic flows of my eruption. There were significant amount of injuries and 57 people dead.
